Wonder Woman Shows Young Girls How To Kick Ass

Aresspread

Now this is girl power! If only J. Michael Straczynski's comic iteration of the Woman Warrior - to say nothing of David "Ally McBeal" Kelly's douche-chill inducing TV version, who like most of Kelly's women seems to define herself by her lack of boob confidence-

- had an ounce of the awesomeness on display in this single panel from Ralph Cosentino's Wonder Woman: The Story of the Amazon Princess.

Still, I highly approve of smart, empowering children's books. Get 'em while they're young and impressionable.

Wonder_woman
Cosentino does terrific superhero books for kids, and Amazon Princess looks like great piece of work. I'm totally getting a copy for my niece.

It's available for pre-order now, and will hit bookstores on April 14.

Joker Black and White Statue: Why So Sepia?

Joker_black_and_white_statue
Designed by Lee Bermejo, this pulp-tastic Batman Black and White: Joker statue looks both beautiful and frightening. I'm gonna keep him on my desk to admire, and when I really need some motivation to make deadline I'm going to look at that grim expression and the tight grip on his gun and pretend he's my editor.

Stylish and useful!

But for realsies, I'm a huge fan of Batman Black and White, and the Joker graphic novel, written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Bermejo on which this design is based.

The statue hits stores in May, and is available for pre-order now.

Nicholas Courtney, Doctor Who's legendary Brigadier, mourned by fans

News today of the death of actor Nicholas Courtney has struck genuine sadness through the geek community and the world at large. A fine actor and a seemingly genuinely lovely man, he was also the longest-serving actor in Doctor Who history.

George Takei Learns What #FF Means

P442

Ohhh my indeed. How awesome is Sulu?

Although if I'm being honest, I'm straight so maybe I'm missing something, but his version of FF does not sound like my cup of tea.

Ouchie.

Matt Sager

About the Blog:

Comics Cavern's place on Posterous and Pulsememe for sharing news and opinions about the wonderful world of comics, as well as other stuff related to comics culture - ya know, video games, movies, TV, and what not.

About Me:

Matt Sager. NYC, Greenwich Village born and raised, still here despite the zombie-like plague of Disneyfication (no offense, Marvel). Still, I remember when Thompkins Square Park was a riot zone shanty-town, and now it's a beautiful place for a Sunday stroll, so you take the good with the bad.
